THE SEARCH:
Altus Partners is delighted to be supporting a highly entrepreneurial investment firm in the search for an Investment Director to help build and scale a new structured capital and credit investing platform. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with the Partner and CIO to define and grow a function from the ground up, integrating seamlessly with the firm’s broader investment strategy.
While the platform is not a traditional credit fund, its investment philosophy closely mirrors private credit principles—focusing on downside-protected growth capital, structured equity, and asset-backed businesses. The successful candidate will bring a credit-first mindset and the ability to navigate across both equity and debt strategies, tailoring solutions to business needs.
This is an ideal role for a candidate who thrives in white-space environments, is comfortable wearing multiple hats, and wants to co-create a differentiated platform in a dynamic, purpose-led firm.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The role includes but is not limited to the following:
Platform Development & Strategy
Work with the Partner and CIO to define the platform’s mandate, operating model, and origination strategy.
Help shape the investment criteria and credit policy, drawing on best practices from private credit and structured equity.
Build internal processes for diligence, structuring, portfolio monitoring, and risk management.
Origination & Execution
Source and lead investments in profitable, asset-backed businesses, often in situations requiring bespoke, flexible capital.
Deploy capital through preferred equity, structured equity, loan notes, or hybrid instruments.
Structure transactions with an emphasis on capital preservation, downside protection, and covenant discipline.
Credit & Risk Framework
Apply a credit lens to all investments, focusing on asset cover, cash flow durability, and repayment mechanics.
Engage in deep due diligence across financial, operational, and collateral dynamics.
Contribute to the firm’s credit-related know-how and internal training.
Integration with Broader Investment Platform
Collaborate across investment teams to ensure strategic alignment and portfolio synergies.
Support cross-over opportunities between structured equity, minority growth, and special situations.
Be a voice in investment committee discussions, adding a risk-aware perspective.
THE REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:
Experience: 8–12 years in private credit, special situations, structured equity, or mezzanine investing.
Technical Skillset: Deep understanding of credit structuring, covenant design, and hybrid instruments.
Mindset: Commercial yet risk-aware, with a strong instinct for capital preservation and downside analysis.
Leadership: Proven experience leading deals and contributing to platform development or team build-outs.
Fit: Entrepreneurial, collaborative, and excited by the opportunity to help create something from scratch.
